SONGWRITING FROM THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS

Creative lyrics and unforgettable melodies are magical when done right. It can be difficult to find the balance of words, rhythm, and melodic structure that all come together. Even the most experienced songwriters have challenges sooner or later. There is a wide range of ways to write a song successfully. Here are some helpful songwriting tips, each passed down by some of the world's best musicians.

Songwriting - From Where to Start

One of the hardest parts of the songwriting process is to find the hook or main interesting musical idea. It's always difficult to find the central theme for your song. Once you have your key chord progression, you can build the rest of your song around it, but this method is not appropriate for every songwriter. Some of the writers will get the lyrics down first and then compose their tune. There is no specific rule. It all depends on the writer and the source of inspiration.

Lyrics Matter

A song is all about lyrics, and writing good lyrics can often be a unique challenge and a fun one to overcome. It takes some practice. Before writing lyrics, it is a good idea to have a clear picture of what you want the song to be about. It is a good start.

Record Any Spur of the Moment Inspiration

Almost every songwriter has come up with a fantastic song idea, only to forget it hours later. Forgetting your creations is simply something songwriters workaround, and here's a fun tip to make remembering your ideas easy. It's essential to make a note of your thoughts while it's fresh in your brain, regardless of whether it's simply recording it on your phone or jotting it down on a piece of paper. You'll be happy you did.

Write From Experience

There's no doubt that songwriting takes practice, and it helps to have life experiences to draw inspiration. You can also write by reading articles, watching TV and/or movies, listening to other conversations, etc. The effect of writing from your personal experience is that, in the end, your song will be real and believable to the audience. If beginner songwriters want to enhance their songwriting chops, they may consider working with experienced lyricists.

Collaborate with Other Musicians

If you're experiencing the inevitable mental obstacle (writer's block), teaming up with different writers/performers can offer an incredible method to break new ground and get a crisp viewpoint on your song. Demonstrate to them what you have up until now, examine any new thoughts they may propose, and see what comes out of it. Getting an outside perspective on your song from a kindred artist can bring the best out of your music. Two heads are dependably superior to one.

Summary

Songwriting requires creativity; like everything, it can be learned, so if you are passionate about writing your own songs, then follow the above tips. If you are interested in learning how to write songs, check out our Songwriter Course or All Lesson Pros Courses.
